Lifting magnets (henceforth – magnets) are designed to lift and move sheets, bars and scrap of ferromagnetic materials. The magnets are to be attacheed to cranes and other hoisting machines at ferrous metallurgy plants, scrap yards and ship-building warfs.

Lifting magnetsAn extremely thorough analisys of both the magnetic-field mechanics and thermal processes has led to the development of a new series of magnets: DKM and DPM. These magnets combine optimal mass with more than adequate energy characteristic.

Currently KZE DimAl, Ltd manufactures the following models of magnets:

  • DKM (circular), available diameters from 100 mm up to 3000 mm,
  • DPM (square/rectangular) similar to models PM15, PM26,
  • л (restored ones) restored magnets of models M22, M42, M62,
  • heat-insulated magnets. They are used to move hot cargoes having surface temperature of up to 500 °C,
  • magnets meeting climatic requirements of U1(с1) or T1(р1).
  • magnets with up to 60% duty ratio,
  • magnets complying with the IP44 safety requirements of GOST 14255-69.

Lifting magnetsMinimal reduction of hoisting capacity due to operational heating up.

Basic advantages of the DKM series magnets over similar poducts

  • Enhanced hoisting capacity Depending on the make of the magnet this capacity can be extra-high, high, medium and light. Medium hoisting capacity magnets are similar to conventional industrial electrical lifting magnets. Light hoisting capacity magnets boast ideal hoisting capacity as well as power consumption characteristic when used with light cranes. Both extra-high and high hoisting capacity magnets are the magnets possessing enhanced hoisting capacity thanks to orginal design, technologies amplifying and redistributing magnetic flux and implementation of innovativу heat-dissipating techniques.
  • Three-point mounting of the magnet's core has made it possible not only to improve the hoisting capacity but also to mechanically strengthen the core as now there is additional support point for the armor plate.
The use of computer-aided design has allowed to more evenly distribute the magnetic field over the magnet's surface without sacrificing the mean magnetic intencity, which in its turn has led to an increase in both the volume and the mass of lifted scrap as compared to those data on conventional magnets.
  • The use of a composite copper-and-aluminum coil of the magnet has enabled to diminish heating of its core thanks to redistribution of heat inside the magnet's coil.
  • Minimal hoisting capacity deterioration caused by operational heat build-up.
  • Splash-proof tilting-lid contact box increases reliability of the magnet's contact group leading to its longer lifetime.
  • The used insulating materials and compounds can stand high puncture voltage. The materials are highly heat-conducting and moisture-resistant. The used materials comply with the no less than 220 heat-resistance class requirements (permissible temperature is 220 ° C). The above-mentioned facts prove high reliability of the product.
  • All the types of magnets are available in either cast or welded casings. Neither reduces the magnets' characteristics.
  • All the types of magnets are available in either heat-protective or submercible casings.
  • Every magnet irrespective its hoist capasity or coil material can be optimized to handle various loads: scrap, rolled metal, packets, slabs, metal facings and chips, etc. The optmization doesn't affect the sale price.

Every magnet undergoes hand-over tests:

  • thermal test,
  • break-off load test on a stand,
  • hoisting capacity test (scrap and chips).

Such tests allow to impartially assess the performance capabilities of the manufactured magnets to make sure they meet our customers' requirements and to reduce the malfunction percentage.

In 2006 KZE DimAl, Ltd redesigned the entire DKM series of circular magnets, special-purpose cast casings were designed.

Design features of the DKM series magnets

Lifting magnets The new redesigned cast casings:
  • highly-developped ribbing,
  • extereme durability,
  • enhanced magnetic field,
  • improved heat dissipation at the magnet's operation,

Additional railing protects the contact box and the power cable from mechanical damage.

The contact bох is securely covered with a thick cast lid protecting the box from possible shocks. The horizontal placement of contacts makes it easy to connect the feed cable.

The new cast armor of the magnets is extremely durable and rigid having higher resistance to shocks. This prolongs the lifetime of the magnet and securely protects the magnet's coil.
